What Is EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Reprocessing)
EMDR is a powerful process, developed by behavorial psychologist Francine Shapiro, which has helped hundreds of thousands of people overcome the effects of anxiety and emotional distress and to acheive peak performance.
Shapiro developed EMDR, which is only taught to clinicians, after a personal discovery. She found she was less disturbed from thinking of emotional upsets when she repeatedly moved both eyes to the right and then left.
EMDR can be used to resolve memories of past difficult emotional experiences which can affect one’s current life such as physical and sexual abuse, rape, repeated business or job losses, relationship losses and prolonged grief. It can also be used to overcome the effects of current problems such as asking a boss for a raise, building the motivation to do a job search, reducing performance anxiety, setting limits with another person, reducinanxiety and distress, and overcoming phobias and panic attacks:
Examples of EMDR successes include:
· Reducing extreme anxiety from witnessing a suicicide so that client’s thoughts were no longer disturbing
· Reducing extreme anxiety and panic caused by a work incident that kept a client from applying for a job
· Overcoming obstacles that kept a sales client from making cold calls
· Overcoming belief of being incompetent
· Overcoming fear caused by previous stalking and physical abuse
EMDR is sometimes helpful when talk pyschotherapy reaches its limits as it may bring up past events to be processed that did not previously arise. It also helps people acheive their goals though positive imaging or imagining themselves meeting their goals while using EMDR. It is well known that Olympic champions do positive imaging or imagining at least 15 minues a day. EMDR has been found to make this positive imaging even more effective. EMDR clients often have positive solutions to to problems and positive feelings arise naturally in them.
HOW DOES EMDR WORK?
Research is constantly being conducted to understand how EMDR works. It is known that it works on the brain and produces a physiological change on a neurological level. We know that when a person becomes very upset by a difficult emotional experience or trauma, there is an overload on the system and information processing is blocked. There is an overexcitation of the braine and a resulting change of neural elements. It is believed that the upsetting event also prevents REM sleep, the nightly sleep that helps people process normal emotional events of the day.
The neurological blockage causes the incident to remain in the body in its anxiety-producing form along with the original thoughts, feelings, flashbacks or nightmare.
Shapiro believes that EMDR unlocks the neural channels in the brain and increases REM sleep, allowing the brain to complete the processing which was blocked by the traumatic event.
EMDR is not hypnosis, and the client feels more in control as s/he is in a different brain wave state than under hypnosis. Research shows that the effects of EMDR are long lasting. One study of 80 subjects with post-traumatic stress improved significantly with EMDR and the beneficial process remained for at least 15 months.
HOW LONG DOES EMDR TAKE?
One or more sessions area needed for the therapist to understa nd the problem to be solved. A typical course of treatment may be three to ten EMDR sessions, each 60 or 90 minutes long. EMDR, often used in conjunctions with talk therapy, may take longer, depending on the nature of the trauma and how many times it or related traumas occurred.
WHAT IS AN EMDR SESSION LIKE?
I typically guide the client to find a safe place in their mind such as a place in the mountains, by the water or at home. This is to relax the client and to provide a safe internal place for the client to go in case of any of the material experienced is disturbing. The client always has the option of stopping the session any time s/he pleases. I then ask the client to describe the disturbing information in detail as well as related emotions, body sensations, and any negative self-assessment that resulted from the incident such as “I’m trapped,” “I’m powerless,” etc.
Depending on the clients preferred method of taking in information, I have him/her process the experience using eye movements, sounds in alternative ears using earphones or with handles that stimulate each hand with a vibration. The idea is to obtain bilateral stimuation with these methods. After the disturbance is reduced, I then ask the client to image the event as she/he would have liked it to happen and continue with the eye movements, sounds or hand sensations. I keep asking the client to tell me what they are experiencing and guide them through the experience.
After an issue is worked through, clients typically feel empowered, less anxious, light, more positive and relieved. Having removed their blocks, they are able to move forward with the life changes they wish to make. EMDR does not work for everyone, but the powerful process has helped thousands of peopple to overcome the effects of anxiety and emotional distress and to acheive peak performance.
Minimum training for EMDR practitioners is two three day training sessions.
In addition to these trainings, certified practitioners have 20 sessions with a higher level trainer who supervises the practitioners EMDR practice during that period. Certified practioners have to meet additional EMDR educational requirements every two years.

Educational Statistics in the U.s
There are about 1.5 million elementary school teachers and 1.1 million secondary school teachers in the United States, and the amount spent, by average, on home schooling per child in the United States is about $450. (Source: Charity Navigator.com)
- Between 8 and 15 million children nationwide are unsupervised at the end of each school day;
- An average deaf child isn’t introduced to English until age six, upon entering school.
- About 87% of Americans aged 18 to 24 have completed high school with a diploma or an alternative credential such as a General Education Development certificate;
-The school districts in the U.S. with the highest child poverty rates have $1,139 fewer state and local dollars to spend per student than the wealthiest districts; and
- When among 18 to 24-year-old Americans are given maps, 70 percent cannot find New Jersey and 11 percent cannot find the United States.
This country is in a sad state of affairs when it comes to the education of our youth and based on these statistics, it will take the political and philanthropic community to continue dialogue around educational, social, and humanitarian needs of disadvantaged children and families in the future to help resolve the problem.
Although public education has always played an important part in politics in this country, it has also been subject to continual political scrutiny.
Local politics and education are inseparable, as every city’s local school system is an organization with a political culture. Various groups from both within the system and outside the system compete for power. Typically there are very limited budgetary resources.
Yet our local school systems are devoted to children and tax dollars — two of our most important resources. Often times, limited resources cause varying degrees of funding ability for most local school systems, which in turn creates a lot of competition for existing resources.
Because of this, special interest groups compete, and funding priorities become the object of political debate – local, state and national.
Education is often a major part of both national political party platforms as well as local community discussions. The focus in the news surrounding our country’s recent elections.
But just in case we have forgotten, our country’s Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution delegated authority over education to the states. Each state varies from highly decentralized local education systems to more centralized state systems like Hawaii. However, the most recent trend has been movement toward increased state standards with new accountability systems.
Interest in Education at the Federal levwel has long been part of our culture, and in 2001, under direction of President Bush, the Elementary and Secondary Education Act was renewed and renamed No Child Left Behind Act (2001). This was a critical step in bettering our country’s public education – the objective being – to increase the accountability of schools that needed improvement. The ACT also called for “highly qualified” teachers in every classroom.
Of all the localized special interest groups – from football supporters, planning and zoning committees, business, boards and various other local agencies, there is also the idea that diverse communities can become divided on school issues in areas of socio-economics.
Religion and political affiliation can also play a role in the politics of our local education, while public education advocates and privatization groups often differ on local policies.
Even community business groups can also be divided regarding the money required for facility improvement projects such as stadiums or school facilities. That is why effective local school leadership lies in balancing these diverse special interest groups.
The reality is that politics are part of every local school system. Local school leaders must learn to work within the unique political reality of their local system to accomplish the goals of an organization.

Why Choose Acid Reflux Alternative Medicine
There is nothing wrong with the usage of prescription medication or antacids as a way to fight against acid reflux. These methods are proven. However, for those who suffer from chronic and frequent acid reflux, such methods are not always the best choice for treatment. Sometimes, using acid reflux alternative medicine can be more beneficial to your overall health.
This may sound strange, after all, why would alternative forms be better than prescriptions? Nonetheless, alternative medicine actually can be better than conventional medicine simply because they can eliminate some of the side-effects known to accompany other medications.
Many antacids can shut down the body’s natural digestion processes, so some people turn to alternative acid reflux remedies to avoid these complications. Supplements like orange peel extract, fiber and green tea can help ease the symptoms without impacting on the body’s processing ability.
Orange Peel Extract:
As an acid reflux alternative option there are few better than orange peel extract. This works to speed up the digestion process, without removing the absorption of minerals, and keeps your stomach from producing too much acid. They do not, as some would think, stop acid production. Instead, they merely help the food leave your stomach more quickly, which reduces the need for acid production. This will keep your stomach from refluxing acid into the throat and reduce symptoms.
Fiber:
Fiber, to put it simply, absorbs excess acid. This does not cure reflux but it dramatically helps keep the symptoms from appearing. When the acid is absorbed, it is removed naturally from the body as part of the digestion process. This is arguably the easiest method to use since there are so many ways to get a dosage of fiber. Vegetables and fruits are excellent sources of fiber. Everything from spinach to avocados can give you what you need. If you happen to have a particular aversion to high-fiber foods, however, fiber tablets are also available.
Green Tea:
Green teas health benefits are well-known, so it should come as no surprise that green tea may have a positive impact on reducing acid reflux. When you drink green tea, it helps to soothe your digestive system and works to balance acidic levels. This, while not a cure for reflux, will help you maintain a healthier stomach, resulting in less outbursts of acid. Of course, due to the fact that green tea has so many other health benefits, you would do well to drink it aside from reducing reflux!
Acid reflux alternative medicine can have certain advantages over prescriptions and antacids. They do not altar the body’s natural processes. Instead, they work with them.
Sign up below for the free Acid Reflux newsletter and discover the many other natural treatments for treating and preventing acid reflux.
However, please keep in mind that not all acid reflux alternative medicine may be an improvement over antacids, so you should always speak to your doctor about your treatment methods. However, many of the alternative options will give you the results you want without causing unwanted side effects. Alternative medicine does work for many sufferers and may be able to help you fight acid reflux.

What do you think about my plan to help with racial and prejudice conflict?
Since people are ALWAYS complaining about the whole popularity and racial problems with teens…?
I have decided to put a stop to it.
I am a 13 year old teenage girl.
I hate how people at my school tend to stick with others of their own race just to fit in.
I hang with all different kinds of people, and I think it’s stupid how people try to form little racial cliques.
I would like everyone to notice that popular or unpopular, within your race, or not, we can all get along.
So I came up with this plan:
I am going to introduce the ‘populars’ to the ‘average’ people.
I know they can all get along. They are just afraid to.
So…
how do you think I could go about doing this? I am going to start next year in eighth grade, because it is the end of the school year. I am already getting known (I always had potential to be ‘popular’, but now I go out of my way. That’s why people know me all of a sudden), but do you have any other ideas to how I could meet more people next year?
The more ‘popular’ I am, the more people I can influence to learn to be friends with different people.
You should totally do that anyway.
Sit at a different table every day at lunch (rotate). Casually ask a group of people from different groups to go to the movies or to the mall.
People aren’t as closed-minded about meeting other people as you might think. It’s the initial conversation that’s the hardest part, and if you’re there to prompt a conversation then it shouldn’t be hard to get them talking.
Some conversation ideas:
Tabloid items (Britney Spears, Bragelina, etc.)
A new store or building that opened up in town
Classes at school and teachers that suck
Food
You get the idea – light conversations that can really get people talking. Try to find things they have in common and try to emphasize those in conversation. Avoid talking about other people, especially gossip, because then you’ll just start a whole wave of drama.
Most of all – be confident! I promise, that’s the key to popularity.
Good luck, have fun.

Did you notice atheists seem to think the only alternative to being an atheist is religion?
they say things like I don’t believe in some man in the sky, who’s gonna send me to hell..
stuff like that.
god doesn’t have a religion god is energy. religion makes a lotta people atheists, huh?
I think the problem is that some Americans seem to think their only options are Atheist or Fundamentalist Evangelical Christian, when in fact there are literally thousands of religions and spiritual paths out there to choose from. I don’t believe in "some man in the sky, who’s gonna send me to hell" either, but I still believe in something. Research! Don’t give up on spirituality altogether just because certain Fundies are annoying you.
